Anti-odour hair mist: how to keep your hair smelling good
A dinner out, a barbecue, a smoky evening or a workout… and your hair holds on to the smell all day. That's normal: the hair fibre, especially when it's porous, easily traps odours from the air around it. The good news is that a few simple habits are enough to get fresh hair back without washing it every time.
Why does hair hold on to smells?
Hair has a large surface in contact with the air, and the sebum produced by the scalp easily traps odour particles. Porous, dry or coloured hair has more open cuticles and picks up smells even more. To find out if that's your case, read our article on hair porosity.
The most common smells
- Cooking and frying: greasy vapours settle on the lengths.
- Tobacco and smoke: smoke lingers in the fibre.
- Sweat: after exercise, the smell mostly comes from the scalp.
- Dry shampoo: used several days in a row, it can leave a powdery smell that builds up.
5 habits for hair that smells good
1. Tie your hair up in smelly places
In the kitchen or somewhere smoky, a braid or a bun reduces the exposed surface. A clip or a silk scarf protects your lengths even better.
2. Air your hair before scenting it
When you get home, shake out your hair and brush it gently to remove some of the particles. Fragrance will last better on aired hair.
3. Use an alcohol-free hair mist
A hair mist scents and refreshes your lengths between washes. Choose one without alcohol: unlike a classic perfume, it won't dry out the fibre. Spray from 20 cm, on the lengths rather than the roots.
4. Don't scent a sweaty scalp
After exercise, the mist refreshes your lengths but doesn't replace washing if the smell comes from the scalp. In that case, a gentle shampoo is still the right answer.
5. Finish with a drop of oil
A drop of scented hair oil on the ends adds a long-lasting note of fragrance and brings shine.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put my perfume on my hair?
Best avoided: most perfumes contain a lot of alcohol, which dries out the fibre. A hair mist is formulated for hair.
How many times a day should I use a hair mist?
Once to three times is usually enough: in the morning, then for a touch-up if needed.
Does a mist replace shampoo?
No. It refreshes and scents, but it doesn't clean. Above all, it helps you space out your washes a little.
